Festança Caiçara de Pedrinhas: tradition, culture and community on the shores of the Mar Pequeno

Cultural and gastronomic event

Every year in October, the quiet village of Pedrinhas takes on a different rhythm. Residents, visitors, musicians, artisans and representatives of local culture gather to celebrate one of the most special festivals on Ilha Comprida: the Festança Caiçara de Pedrinhas.

More than a tourist event, the Festança is a celebration of caiçara history and identity, and the place chosen to hold it could not be more symbolic.

A festival born to celebrate the island and its roots

The first Festança Caiçara took place in 2013, as part of the celebrations of Ilha Comprida's anniversary. From the start, the idea was to bring together culture, nature, gastronomy and the knowledge of traditional communities.

The date has a special meaning. Ilha Comprida celebrates its political-administrative emancipation on 27 October, the date of the 1991 plebiscite in which the population voted to create the municipality. Anniversary week is also recognised in the municipal calendar as Caiçara Culture Week.

It was in this context that the Festança was born: a way of celebrating the town's anniversary by honouring the very traditions that helped build its history.

And why Pedrinhas?

Pedrinhas is one of the traditional communities of Ilha Comprida and began to form in the early 20th century, especially around fishing and extractive activities.

On the shores of the Mar Pequeno, life in the village has always been tied to the waters, the tides, fishing and the nature around it. That is why, during the Festança, Pedrinhas is not just the backdrop for the party: the village itself is part of the experience.

Over the editions, the programme has included fandango, caiçara canoe races, processions, fishing, crafts, gastronomy, the Casa dos Costumes Caiçaras, tours, nature activities and musical performances.

One curiosity is that, already in the first edition in 2013, there were activities such as bird watching, environmental trails, cultural workshops and even a nocturnal sensory trail. In other words, from the beginning the idea was to invite visitors not only to watch a party, but also to get to know and experience the territory.

Tradition that continues

The Festança has grown and gained new audiences and attractions, but some elements run through its history: fishing, canoes, music, religiosity, crafts, cuisine and, above all, the encounter between residents and visitors.

After some interruptions over the years, the festival reaches its 10th edition in 2026.

The 10th Festança Caiçara de Pedrinhas will take place from October 23 to 25, 2026, once again bringing together activities that blend religious traditions, culture, sports, gastronomy, and music — elements that reflect the Caiçara identity in one of Ilha Comprida’s most charming villages. The full program has now been confirmed!

One of the highlights of the musical program is a special performance by Renato Teixeira & Yassir Chediak on Saturday (24) at 10:30 p.m. Renato Teixeira, one of the most celebrated names in Brazilian music and the songwriter behind classics such as Romaria and Tocando em Frente, will take the stage alongside viola player, singer, and songwriter Yassir Chediak for a performance deeply connected to Brazilian roots music and the cultural spirit of the Festança.

Because some festivals we simply visit. Others help us understand the place where we are.
